Kavon is an AI-powered grading and student progress platform that helps academies and instructors grade faster, generate consistent feedback, and track student outcomes. We can optionally integrate with Google Classroom to import your existing data, or you can use Kavon entirely standalone.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Kavon. We are committed to maintaining the trust of educators and protecting student data.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you sign up with Google, we receive your Google profile information.

Course & Classroom Data (Optional)

If you choose to connect Google Classroom, we access course IDs, assignment IDs, and related metadata necessary to import your courses. This is entirely optional — Kavon works without any Google connection.

Student Submissions

When you use Kavon to grade assignments, we process student submission content (text, documents, code, photos) to generate feedback drafts. Submissions are subject to your configured retention settings.

How We Use Your Data

  • Generate Feedback: We analyze student submissions against your rubrics to produce suggested scores and feedback drafts for your review.
  • Improve Kavon: We use anonymized, aggregated analytics to improve our platform. Individual student work is never used for public model training.
  • Provide Support: We use your account information to respond to support requests and communicate important service updates.

Data Security

  • Encryption in Transit: All data is encrypted using TLS 1.3.
  • Encryption at Rest: All stored data is encrypted using AES-256 encryption.
  • Access Controls: Strict role-based access controls. Only authorized personnel can access user data.
  • Audit Trail: Every grading action is logged for accountability.

Data Retention

  • Teacher-Controlled Retention: Configure how long submission data is kept in your account settings.
  • Automatic Deletion: After your configured retention window, submission data is permanently deleted.
  • Account Data: Retained while your account is active. Upon deletion, removed within 30 days.

FERPA & COPPA Compliance

Kavon is designed to comply with FERPA and COPPA:

  • We function as a “school official” under FERPA, processing records on behalf of institutions.
  • We never sell, rent, or trade student data.
  • Student data is used exclusively for the grading service.
  • Schools can request a Data Processing Agreement (DPA).

Your Rights

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data.
  • Data Export: Export your data in machine-readable format.
  • Disconnect: Revoke any integration access at any time.
